New start Adam-ant on joining Murphy Wealth

Last week we welcomed our newest team member to the Murphy Wealth family! Meet Adam, who will be taking on the role of administration within the team. I caught up with Adam to find out more about him and what made him keen to join Murphy Wealth.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I studied at Glasgow Caledonian University, graduating in 2014 with a degree in Finance, Investment and Risk. My first job when leaving university was with Close Brothers Asset Management. Following that, I wanted to work for a larger firm and had the opportunity to work for Morgan Stanley within the Operations team. This gave me exposure to the Investment Banking world. After 2 years however, I wanted to return to a client-focused environment within the personal financial planning space.

Would you say you took a ‘traditional route’ into the financial planning industry?

Yes, I would say so since I started out as an administrator after graduating. The course set me up quite well for the industry!

What made you choose Murphy Wealth?

From when I first looked at the website all the way through to the recruitment process, it seemed very clear that Murphy Wealth were different and making a positively conscious effort to be so. This goes beyond mere words, especially in this industry. Murphy Wealth’s approach is about helping the individual first. The financial advice is the vehicle; however, the focus is always on the client, and what they are trying to achieve on a bigger scale. They are not interested in impressing client’s with graphs and jargon. It’s about making sure they can do what they can to help clients get to their goals. I also liked the idea of working for a family-owned business, where there is also more autonomy to make informed business decisions.

What are your first impressions so far?

The team are friendly, and the clients enjoy coming to the office which is a great sign. It’s also a huge testament to the service the offer.

What kind of role will you be playing here? What are you looking forward to?

I want to make a difference to the administration team and free up time as well as resource for the team to work on projects. Once I have a better understanding of the client journey, I hope that I can improve processes and bring my own knowledge to benefit Murphy Wealth.

What do you think our industry could do better when it comes to client experience?

I think the industry suffers from an outdated image, but Murphy Wealth are trying to be different in every aspect. We have a young workforce who are empowered and experienced when it comes to client service, mainly because they get just as much exposure to clients as the advisers do. The workplace is also supporting a more fluid working environment with creative and collaborative work spaces. When you walk in, you feel that they instantly dissolve traditional financial service hierarchies and move away from the persona of advisers wearing suits and pounding calculators.

What’s your favourite Movie?

Jaws. I could listen to the soundtrack alone.

What are your hobbies?

Cooking and exercise – recently I have started kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (much to my families dismay!).

If you could sum yourself up in one word, what would it be?

Happy.

And on that note, so are we! We are delighted that Adam has joined the team.

Look out for Adam at our upcoming events! If you have any questions or would like to potentially find out more about opportunities in the team, then please get in touch: team@murphywealth.co.uk.
